"For the youth of Bellaire, and for future generations, such an arrangement would represent a major boost for sports facilities that would be re-used," said BOC Chairman Jonathan Linden.
Linden is president of J-Linden Investments, a local commercial real estate concern and part owner in Cardinal Holdings, LLC. "In our city, there wouldn't be any danger that a single venue or facility would be left standing unused." He cited the new Aquatic facility as an example. "We could easily convert the large leisure pool for speed skating and figure skating competitions while the lap pool is ideal for Hockey," Linden says.
Bellaire has been mocked for its decision, but boosters say the small city is ideal for investment in new facilities for winter events.
"Over the next few weeks, we will unveil plans that have been under painstaking preparation," said Linden. "Engineers, athletes, and local businesses have banded together to prepare a comprehensive bid to launch our effort," he added.
The International Olympic Committee won't choose a host city until June 2011.
